It’s been an exciting year at 12Port. Over the last 6 months, we’ve introduced several key features to our 12Port Horizon Microsegmentation platform. If you missed our weekly release notes and product updates, here’s a quick recap of the top features added in the second half of 2024.
1. Intelligent and Bulk Asset Tagging
Assets are only as valuable as the tags that help organize them. With the new Intelligent Tagging feature, you can easily set rules and automatically apply classification tags to both new, imported, or existing assets, making it easier to enforce Segmentation Policies with minimal effort. Need to tag a large batch? Simply use the Mass Tagging feature to quickly apply one or more tags to multiple assets at once. It’s efficient, effective, and a real time-saver because who has time to tag everything manually?
2. Network Flow Chart
Take network visibility to a whole new level with our recent enhancements to the 12Port Horizon Network Flow Chart, an intuitive tool that visualizes traffic patterns and interactions. By mapping data flows between different assets and policy segments, you have more granular control over network access. This helps you spot vulnerabilities, isolate sensitive systems, and enforce policies with pinpoint accuracy—all while reducing attack surfaces and enhancing threat containment.
New capabilities added to 12Port Horizon Network Flow Chart include:
- Visual Search: Easily locate assets by searching names, tags, and policies to enhance identification and network traffic connectivity.
- Asset Creation & Tagging: Create new assets and tag existing ones directly from the Network Flow Chart to streamline asset classification.
- Service Management: Add new services based on inbound traffic over specific ports and identify existing services using custom names.
- Asset Versioning: Promote or demote asset versions to enable dynamic tagging and ensure accurate policy enforcement.
- Bulk Script Execution: Run scripts across multiple asset nodes to perform actions like log collection or enabling features in bulk.
- Segmentation Policy Selection: Visually identify Selector and Source asset nodes and create new segmentation policies based on collected network traffic.
3. Approval Requests for Change Control
Looking to grant users access to certain functions, but prefer to give it the green light first? You’re in luck! 12Port now offers Approval Workflows, allowing users to request access to functions like editing assets or promoting policies, with the added bonus that requests must be approved before the action can be carried out. This powerful feature helps safeguard against misuse, while also providing more detailed logging and time-based control over function access. It’s the perfect way to say “yes, but let’s double-check first” without the hassle.
4. Extended Asset Import Sources
Starting with a new tenant can feel like staring at a blank canvas; daunting and a little overwhelming. But fear not! The Import feature is here to help you hit the ground running. It allows you to automatically create assets from external sources like LDAP, Active Directory, VMWare, and AWS EC2 Instances. As you import, you can effortlessly apply Intelligent Tags to each asset, simplifying the process of implementing segmentation policies in one seamless step. It’s like having your own digital assistant!
5. Tenant Backup and Restore
Keeping your tenants secure has never been easier with our new Backup and Restore features. Now, you can create Full or Incremental backups of your tenants, ensuring peace of mind and flexibility. Full backups capture all data from the tenant and its sub-spaces, while Incremental backups focus on data created or modified since a specific cut-off date—perfect for when you only need the latest updates. Whether you’re moving tenants or just want that extra layer of protection, we’ve got you covered because, let’s face it, security should be simple, not stressful.
6. Custom Logger Configuration and Output
You asked, we delivered. With the new system-wide Custom Logger in 12Port, software events can now be exported to external sources like SIEMs in Common Event Format (CEF). This creates a seamless bridge between 12Port events and Console logging, File logging, or even streaming events to Syslog—all in one unified place. It’s a comprehensive solution for full event logging, giving you the power and clarity you need, without complexity. Logging made easy because we know you’ve got enough on your plate already.
